Foundational
Ballet Technique
Even the tiniest dancers at Tutu School learn the basics of ballet in a thoughtful progression, so that they are ready for more advanced study as they continue on with their dance journey.
Socialization & Structure
Learning to take a class with others is a part of what we practice, along with our pliés and pirouettes.
Imagination & Play
From movement games to Ballet Storytime, we believe in exercising not only little bodies, but also big imaginations.
Frequently asked questions
Classes at Tutu School follow a consistent structure each week, but although much of the class content does remain the same in every class, there is also a great deal of variation from week to week within that established structure. Children benefit tremendously from the security they gain when there is a sense of ritual to what they do, and their skill level evolves more evenly when there is consistency in their practice. That being said, we always work to keep the activities we do in class fresh and exciting…So there will be plenty of new mixed in among the familiar!
At Tutu School, we firmly believe that ballet is for everybody. We always want our studios and classes to feel warm, welcome, and inviting to any and all children – including children of all genders – who want to dance in them.
At Tutu School, we, um, love tutus. LOVE them. You’ve probably noticed a lot of pink and purple in Tutu Schools, too, right? Yeah, we kind of (REALLY) love pink and purple, too. And sparkles. And tiaras. And wands. And flowers. Oh, and making space in children’s lives for creativity and joy and an absolutely magical introduction to music and movement.
And guess what? None of those things are exclusive to girls. They also aren’t the only things girls care about or that we want them to value. Also, if children get to celebrate a lot of pink and purple and tulle in our space – they also get to celebrate strength and bravery and kindness, too, and we think those are all things that fit nicely within our pink and purple walls, and within an age-appropriate introduction to the world of ballet.
Every child will begin participating fully in class at their own perfect pace. We will work to always provide a warm and nurturing environment in each of our classes, and will continually strive to meet shy students where they are in their level of comfort with class, and to draw them into activities as they are ready. In the meantime, you will often notice that a student may start trying out at home the things they have seen at Tutu School before participating more fully within the classroom. Please always feel free to share with us anything you think might be helpful in aiding your child’s progress, but please also trust that they will join in when they are ready.
Please note that caregiver participation is required in our Baby Ballet and Tutu Toddlers divisions. For older divisions, please note that Tutu School is not a childcare provider and our classes are not intended for drop-off care. Please plan to remain close by in case your little dancer needs something.
