From Bubble Parties to Firebirds: A Sister School Story From Mackenzie’s Magical Journey at Tutu School Berkeley
As another season wraps up at Tutu School Berkeley, we’re filled with love and admiration as we celebrate one of our long-time dancers: Mackenzie Stanley, who just performed in her final Bravo Bash. Mackenzie has been part of the Tutu School family since she was just 2½ years old, and watching her grow from a curious Tutu Toddler into a confident, expressive young dancer has been nothing short of magical.
We remember Mackenzie’s very first class, full of wide-eyed wonder and curiosity. She quickly fell in love with the music, the movement, and, of course, the bubble parties! Like many of our youngest dancers, she was immediately enchanted by the playful magic of ballet. The swirl of tutus, the rhythm of the music, and the joy of dancing with friends soon became a cherished weekly ritual.
As Mackenzie grew, so did her love for ballet stories, especially the bold and mysterious tale of Firebird. With its dramatic music and powerful characters, it was the perfect match for her imagination and creativity.
Over the years, we’ve watched not only her technique develop, but also her confidence, artistry, and dedication. Mackenzie brought energy, joy, and focus to every class and performance, setting a beautiful example for the younger dancers around her.
Now, as Mackenzie prepares to turn 8 and begin a new chapter, we’re celebrating her final month at Tutu School Berkeley. Though we’ll miss her deeply, we’re so proud of all she’s accomplished. Her growth as a dancer has been rooted in the joy, creativity, and care she experienced here, and we’re honored to have been part of her early ballet journey.
Her family shared how especially grateful they are for the many teachers who have helped shape Mackenzie along the way — from Teacher Allie, who has been a warm and encouraging constant through the years, to Teacher Marissa during online classes during COVID-19, and Teacher Charlie during makeup classes in Hercules.
One of the most treasured parts of Mackenzie’s journey has been performing in the Bravo Bash recitals in San Francisco. She’s taken part in about five performances, each one filled with special memories, and she’s so excited to take the stage one last time in Twirling Over the Rainbow.
And while we’re saying goodbye to Mackenzie as a student, the Stanley family’s story at Tutu School is far from over. Mackenzie is happily passing the torch to her younger sister, Josie, who currently dances in Hercules with Teacher Caroline and is ready to follow in her big sister’s footsteps.
When asked what she’ll miss most, Mackenzie didn’t hesitate. It’s Teacher Allie. Their bond has been a special one, and it beautifully reflects the heart of what we strive for at Tutu School: connection, encouragement, and lifelong joy through dance.
To Mackenzie — thank you for all the moments, memories, and magic you’ve shared with us. You’ve left your mark at Tutu School, and we can’t wait to see where your ballet journey takes you next.
Thank you for the magic, Mackenzie. 💖
With love,
All of us at Tutu School
