Favorite Ballet Storytime Story
My favorite ballet story is The Nutcracker, Christmas is a magical time of year to me and after dancing in The Nutcracker year after year. I feel connected to every page.
Favorite Ballet Step
I love teaching a pace. I usually say bring your foot to your knee while going across the floor. Dancers usually like saying it with me and it brings a lot of joy to the dance floor. It's my favorite because I think it's the dancers favorite.
Do you have a go-to animal for inspiration during Animal Dances?
My favorite go to animals are elephants, frogs and sloths. Froggy jumps are fun, physically challenging and my favorite part is we get to say ribbit. Elephants are loud, incorporating stomps, high knees and finding creative ways to make trunks. Sloths are very slow animals and although our young dancers love to go fast, when they go as slow as they can it help teaches control and sustainability.
Favorite Thing About Teaching at Tutu School
Tutu School is special to me because I learned dance from a very strict, perfectionist, competitive dance academy. I had always loved to dance and had many great experiences in this environment but eventually the atmosphere drained me of my love for dance. I took two years off with the goal of never returning. Then I found a community where the love of dance and the joy it brings was emphasized. I now know the importance and the magic that comes with having a safe space to move and learn. Here at Tutu school we are inclusive, magical, and want every child to shine. I am honored to be able to teach in our wonderful Tutu schools.
