Favorite Ballet Step

Passé is definitely one of my favorites. I love how versatile it is—our youngest dancers start with marches, and over time, those naturally grow into beautiful passés. It’s also fun to tie it into imagination-based movement, like doing “flamingo passés” during animal dances. It’s a great way to build technique while keeping things playful and creative.

Do you have a go-to animal for inspiration during Animal Dances?

Butterflies are definitely my go-to! Everyone loves them, and they’re so versatile—kids can dance fast or slow, use big expressive arm movements, and it ties back to our butterfly stretches at the beginning of class. It creates a nice full-circle moment. I also secretly love the ballerina card in our animal dance game—even though it’s not technically an animal. I always save it for last and say, “What is this?” They shout, “A ballet!” and I say, “A ballerina! You’re all ballerinas, right? Show me how a ballerina dances!” It’s such a special way to wrap things up and remind them how magical they are.

Favorite Thing About Teaching at Tutu School

I love teaching and watching my students grow—not just in their dancing, but in their confidence and joy. From their very first trial class to just a few months in, the transformation is incredible. Seeing them light up on stage at Bravo Bash, proud of what they’ve learned, is truly beautiful. There’s something magical about being part of that journey.
