Favorite Ballet Storytime Story
My favorite ballet story from the Tutu School curriculum is ‘The Nutcracker’ because of its engaging story line and wonderful instrumentals! It’s also a great way to incorporate ballet into Christmastime!
Favorite Ballet Step
I love to teach dancers how to châiné turn because it is a great basic that’s super important to pick up, one that dancers will need to know for their future ballet careers. I also really love how with châiné turns you can make it a little different by perhaps changing the arms or quickening the tempo.
Do you have a go-to animal for inspiration during Animal Dances?
My go-to animal for inspiration during animal dances is a frog, because I love to watch dancers jump as high as they can. I always challenge them to show me their biggest, highest jumps, and it’s great to know that this activity is teaching them of dance creatively but to also practice their jumps for practicing at the barre or petit allegro combinations in the future.
Favorite Thing About Teaching at Tutu School
Tutu School is so special to me because it allows for me to spread my knowledge of dance to younger children. I remember being a young dancer in my first few ballet classes and absolutely falling in love with dance. When I am teaching a class and see my dancers giggling doing a silly activity or looking super focused trying to get their feet right, it reminds me of when I was in their position and trying to be just like my dance teacher. Tutu School was my first job, and I am so very glad I came here because of the friendly faces, healthy relationships, and positive work environments. The last thing that Tutu School has thought me so far was that I don’t need to be afraid to ask for help when I need it. I feel so supported here and I’m so glad I’ve been able to find my place at Tutu School!
