Teacher Spotlight: Miss Adelaine ~ Where Every Dancer’s Ideas Matter

This month, we’re excited to highlight Tutu School Tacoma teacher Miss Adelaine and invite you to step inside one of her classes. Through imaginative storytelling, playful learning, and meaningful connection, Adelaine creates ballet classes where every dancer’s ideas are welcomed and every child is encouraged to shine.

Ask Adelaine what brings her the most joy in class, and her answer isn’t about perfect ballet steps.

“When I get to bond and share moments with students is when I feel the most joy,” she says. “When they share their favorite color, tell me what they learned at school, or tell me they love a specific activity we do in class, it makes the experience so special and memorable.”

“I love the storytelling and themes we get to play with in class,” she shares. “Our students even add their own original ideas, which makes it all the more fun.”

Her teaching style is imaginative, innovative, and, as she describes it, “a little silly.”

Every class blends age-appropriate ballet technique with playful imagery that helps young dancers understand movement in ways that feel exciting and memorable. She knows every child learns differently, so she thoughtfully adapts her teaching to help every dancer experience success. As a Tutu School Tacoma teacher, Adelaine loves creating classes where imagination, movement, and a little silliness help every child feel comfortable learning ballet.

“And of course,” she laughs, “adding some silly aspects to class always helps the students become more comfortable.”

That comfort often becomes confidence.

One of Adelaine’s favorite parts of teaching is watching dancers return week after week and slowly discover just how capable they are.

Even my shyest students grow to be more involved in class,” she says. “Whether it be small steps or one big step, the development is so fulfilling.

One milestone never gets old.

“Eventually one day they build the courage to do their solo all by themselves, and to see the look of achievement in their expressions reminds me why I love teaching.”

Tutu School has broadened my creativity skills and my confidence by challenging my skills further than I thought I was capable.

One thing that continues to surprise her is just how imaginative young children can be.

“They take the information I give them and make something even greater,” she says. “I love listening and even letting students add their ideas all throughout class to foster their curiosity and thoughtfulness.”

That collaborative spirit is one of the things Adelaine appreciates most about Tutu School Tacoma.

“Whether it be the lovely teachers or the families, there is so much community and support at Tutu School.”

She hopes to contribute to that community by building strong relationships with families and creating a classroom where every child feels welcomed, understood, and supported throughout their dance journey.

Outside the studio, Adelaine enjoys hiking with her husband and their pup, exploring local cafés and small shops, reading memoirs, and staying connected with her family in Texas through handwritten letters and painted greeting cards.

Her thoughtful nature carries into her classroom, where she hopes every child experiences the same encouragement that helped shape her own ballet journey.

“When I first started ballet, I didn’t like it,” she shares. “But once I had a good experience and a little encouragement, I found so much enjoyment in the art. I’m so glad I get to share that feeling with all of my students.”
