Tutu School Teachers are True Treasures

Taking a moment to gush over the incredible Magic Makers I have the honor of working alongside on this storybook adventure in ballet (& in business!).

To be honest, the thing that was scariest for me leaping into small business ownership and opening Tutu Schools was — Who is going to do this with me?! I always knew it would take a great team to truly make the difference I was out to make, but now when I pause and look at the staff of women we’ve built, I am simply in awe. They each bring unique gifts and passions, and their talent and care are the very soul of Tutu School Wilmington.

Our Tutu Teachers are truly the secret ingredient to the magic we create!

Teachers

Our Tutu Team across 3 locations collectively brings over 50+ years of experience in the Tutu School curriculum (+ decades more in professional ballet and child development) to our precious little ones at Tutu School—and that number just keeps growing!

Many of our staff have been on this journey teaching with us for 5, 7, 10 years! And similarly for some, it’s also a stop along the way to another dream, but one that keeps them connected to their own love of ballet and dance and sharing that with the next generation. With every new teacher we meet, we also get to watch them create their own kind of magic and leave their own mark on our program.

All of our teachers have been carefully chosen and thoroughly trained. On our team, we look for hearts that never stopped twirling and minds that thrive on creativity. Most of all, we want instructors that are invested in nurturing the big dreams of little dancers.

That is what we have found with our staff — They bring their hearts to the dance floor, committed to creativity and joy, nurturing a lifelong love of dance, and building confidence from the very first plié.

Without further ado… Meet the Tutu Teachers twirling with you into the Fall 2025 sharing what they love about teaching at Tutu School:

Teacher Charli

Tutu School is special to me because I love that I get to be inspired by the young dancers, while teaching and twirling with them in every class.

Teacher Lucy

Ballet has always been my passion, so there is simply no better feeling that sharing it with my students! Tutu School is so special, and so much more than just a ballet school.

Teacher Macey

Tutu School is so special to me because I am able to see all the amazingly sweet dancers connect with ballet and have fun! Tutu School simply has the most caring and positive environment where everyone feels welcome.

Teacher Molly

I love teaching at Tutu School because I wholeheartedly agree with our mission statement: Every Child Should Know What it Feels Like to Dance! I fell in love with dance at a very young age and I’ve been so lucky to pursue a career where I can still dance every day. Seeing the same joy for dance in my students brings me so much purpose.

A Foundation of Experience & Values

The teachers we hire undoubtedly bring a strong background in dance and ballet, experience working with children between 1-8 years old, and they also exemplify the Core Values of our team (we have 4 and they are quite inspiring!)

The training process for all new Tutu School teachers is meticulous and thoughtful. It begins with learning what makes our curriculum differentiated and magical for young children. Through several online modules, new teachers dive deep into:

  • The carefully designed structure of our classes.
  • The depth of our activity guides and music libraries.
  • The fundamentals of early childhood development.

This robust training ensures our teachers are equipped to deliver a truly exceptional ballet education that is both engaging and age-appropriate.

Connection Before Correction

One of the most powerful elements of our philosophy is our focus on building connections with students first. Our teachers are trained to play and engage with children, building a safe and trusting relationship before offering a technical correction. You might hear this in class as:

  • A recognition of their effort: “I see you balancing on one foot!”
  • Followed by a gentle correction: “Try again, and this time, bring your foot to your knee.”

This approach encourages students to try new skills without fear, knowing they are seen and celebrated every step of the way.

Accommodating Every Child’s Journey

We believe that every child deserves to find joy in movement. That’s why our teachers are trained to develop their communication to accommodate a variety of learning styles, developmental milestones, and unique abilities. Teacher are also guided and trained to provide encouragement that centers effort, progress, and confidence through our Tutu Tone. The ultimate goal is always to get children moving in a way that works best for each individual child.

The Tutu School Wilmington Experience

Beyond the curriculum and child development training, our teachers also learn three key frameworks we designed for providing the highest level of customer service. This ensures that every family experiences the same magical and trusted welcome to the world of ballet that countless others have come to know as their child’s first exposure to dance classes.

The Tutu Teacher difference

The “magic” of our classes isn’t just a metaphor—it’s something our teachers create every day in the studio and in our community by making space for it and highlighting it when it happens.

Every week, each member of our team shares 1 big or small moment of magic. A peek inside just some of those shares; they go like this…

  • My Baby Ballet student scooted out to her mat all on her own and began clapping and singing our welcome song before class even started! It was magic!!
  • One of my students was sad to be missing ballet next week while on vacation. When I found out they were going to Wilmington, we had her scheduled to drop in at our Wilmington school within a day and Mom expressed how much it meant to her and how special it made their trip!
  • …how parents look forward to having time for adult conversations with each other. A parent told me today how she was surprised by how much SHE loved being at Tutu School each week. The community we’ve cultivated is beautiful to watch and even more amazing to be a part of!
  • I had the sweetest conversation with a mom today after her daughter’s trial class… she was comforted that Tutu School would be a safe place for her daughter to explore socially while instilling confidence. Love she felt that after only being her for only 45 minutes!
  • …watching the older siblings of my A/B class bond and get excited to see each other. It’s wonderful to see the community Tutu School creates even off the dance floor. 🥰
  • I absolutely loved watching Lucy lead at the Museum yesterday! She did such a great job and the kids were in awe of her. It was so fun to watch our magic touch the community!

Our teachers are so much more than instructors—they are mentors and leaders who truly cherish their role in your child’s life. We are so proud of them and feel fortunate that they are a part of our Tutu School family.
